Trinity Rodman had a tumultuous childhood
Dennis Rodman and his now ex-wife Michelle Moyer had a whirlwind few years together. They met in 1999 and welcomed their son DJ in 2001. Then Trinity was born a year later and Moyer and Dennis got married in a small civil ceremony the year after that, reports People magazine.

But by 2004, Moyer had filed for divorce. According to an ESPN profile on Trinity in 2022, the famous basketball star was absent from his children’s lives in every respect.
While Trinity excelled on the sports field, her home life seemed to be wanting. She once lived at the Orange Country Comfort Inn with her mum, brother and elder sister Teyana Lima, Moyer’s daughter from a previous marriage. Per ESPN, Moyer spoke about eating free waffles in the hotel lobby and scoring free lunch at school for her kids. Rodman hardly saw his children and despite having a famous surname, his children didn’t appear to benefit from his stardom.
Dennis Rodman’s “demons”
In another interview with ESPN in 2019, Dennis said he was estranged from his own father for years. He added that he wanted to be a better father to his own children, telling the publication that his major “demon” was trying to “convince myself that I am a good dad”. He admitted to feeling “detached” from his children, explaining that he felt he only ever heard from them when they needed or wanted something. He always felt like people asked him for material things and found it hard to separate the requests of his children from that of strangers, he said.
He also confessed that his children did not approve of the fact that he wore make-up and experimented with dressing up. At the time of the interview, Rodman was emotional and tearing up.

A dad and daughter reconciliation?
In 2021, Trinity posted a picture of her father at her playoff game as a Washington Spirit team member. She said her famous dad showed up unexpectedly, writing in the image caption, “My dad doesn’t play a big role in my life at all, and most people don’t know that we don’t see eye to eye on many things.” In an interview with ESPN, she said she hoped her father’s appearance was his way of saying that he would be making more effort.
She said she was emotional about his appearance because their relationship had been “so rocky” and that she thought his olive branch was the start of something new. In her Instagram post, she stated, “I go months, if not years, without his presence or communication.” She added that even though they didn’t have the best relationship, “he’s human” and “being in the spotlight has been hard for us, him and me”.
Creating her own name
Trinity’s post sparked interest from fans who wanted to better understand her relationship with her dad. While many would assume that being a celebrity kid would come with tons of perks, Trinity has been candid about the detrimental impact it has had on her.

After Dennis’ public appearance at the game, he hadn’t seen his daughter for seven months, states the article. Trinity told ESPN that she had “found peace” with their relationship. She said being a Rodman is more than her father, but her childhood and the family she does have. “There’s just so much behind it that I love to have in my last name,” the football star told ESPN.
Trinity’s closure
Despite everything that they’ve been through, Trinity has said that she knows her dad is proud of her. In an interview with the LA Times, she stated that “he has his own things to deal with”, adding that “he knows I was going to be here and that’s all I need”.
In an interview with The Guardian, Trinity acknowledged the role her mother has played in her life as her “best friend and rock”. She added that even though she wasn’t famous like her dad, she has an “extremely competitive and driven mindset” and is an “extremely strong woman”. “She’s my role model,” added Trinity.
